2010’s breakout star Drake will perform poolside at WET at the W Hotel South Beach before the party moves inside to WALL, while his Young Money sister Nicki Minaj counts down the new year in the MIA at Mansion. The Pink Friday rapper can also be seen performing on “NBC’s New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly” at 10 p.m. Her “Bottoms Up” collaborator Trey Songz will toast to 2011 at LUXE across town and Lil Jon will turn up the volume at Cameo nightclub.

Lil Wayne will blow into the Windy City to host his first party since prison at Adrianna’s Club Ballroom. Lil Tunechi and the Dipset gang will pop bottles (or water for Weezy), while fans at home can catch him perform his Carter IV single “6 Foot 7 Foot” on “NBC’s New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly.”

The man of all celebrations, Diddy, will hold court at LAX Nightclub inside the Luxor in Vegas, but the hottest ticket will be Jay-Z, who performs with Coldplay at the grand opening gala of The Cosmopolitan for a few thousand invited guests. Those lucky enough to be in attendance may catch a glimpse of his wife Beyoncé.

Which celeb would you like to ring in the New Year with?

Teena Marie May Have Died After Seizure

• Pre-Autopsy Reports Suggest Grand Mal Seizure May Have Led to Singer's Death

By KRISTINA FIORE, MedPage Today Staff Writer

R&B icon Teena Marie may have died from suffering a grand mal seizure, according to reports that are surfacing after the star was found dead in her Pasadena home the day after Christmas.
Sudden unexplained death in epilepsy, or SUDEP, is typically associated with these most intense seizures and likely results from problems with breathing or heart rhythm, said Dr. Jacqueline French of NYU Medical Center and the American Academy of Neurology.
Yet researchers still aren't certain about the exact mechanism by which it leads to death, and caution that it isn't very common among all patients with seizures.
“When seizures aren't controlled, there's a small risk of sudden unexplained death," French told MedPage Today. "But 99 percent of the time when people have a seizure, that doesn't occur."
There has been some speculation that the singer may have been treated for epilepsy. According to entertainment website TMZ.com, the Los Angeles County coroner's office found diazepam (Valium) in her home, which friends say she stopped taking due to side effects before switching to herbal remedies.
The website also reported that she has suffered other seizures, as well as another grand mal only a month ago. She allegedly had requested that someone always accompany her to bed in fear that she would have another.
Dr. Shlomo Shinnar of Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, N.Y., said withdrawal from a benzodiazepine like Valium can trigger seizures, even in the general population. For an epileptic patient, he said, coming off seizure control medication certainly increases the risk of convulsions.
"If you have a seizure disorder and you stop taking your medications, then you increase your risk of seizure and that can happen the next day, two weeks later, or two months later," he told MedPage Today.
Last week in the New England Journal of Medicine, Shinnar and a colleague reported that patients diagnosed with epilepsy as children have higher rates of death than the general population. In fact, almost 10 percent of these deaths were sudden and unexplained -- even in patients who'd been in remission without medication for many years.

Lacklustre Sting 2010

By Richard Johnson

• Sizzla, I-Octane, Lady Saw save the day

Kingston, Jamaica - SOME blame the recession, the absence of Vybz Kartel and Mavado, Kartel's event in New Kingston, and a myriad of other factors; whatever it was, Sting, the much-anticipated 27-year-old music festival failed to hit the mark on Boxing Day.
Perhaps the greatest initial indicator that the event would fall short of previous years was the crowd support. By Sting standards, the huge Jamworld venue in Portmore St Catherine was empty, even after the midnight hour, when the event faithfuls would usually been seen streaming in to catch their favourite reggae and dancehall acts.
The poor crowd support aside, those inside had to endure lacklustre performances, which were punctuated, every now and then, with an act which managed to stir the crowd. The absence of Bounty Killer, whom it is alleged did not receive his deposit and therefore opted not to perform, and the anticlimactic closing featuring, Kiprich, Blak Ryno, Beenie Man and Assassin further deepened the disappointment experienced by the patrons.
After a long night, the break of dawn brought the first sight of a glimmer of hope on stage. At 6:15 the man from Judgement Yard, Sizzla Kalonji, brought a flurry of excitement with his high-energy set. Drawing on his string of hits — Simplicity, I Need you, Thank You Mamma, Can't Keep a Good Man Down and more — this was just what the battle-weary fans needed so he could do no wrong. Even in Portmore he took what seemed to be jabs at other artistes "Seh him a bad man, how him a bleach?" Kalonji questioned and received salutes in all forms from the audience.
Sizzla's performance and the hour that followed would prove to be the best of the festival. In this slot were a number of the acts who formed the '13 Warriors' segment of the festival. The conscious kings ruling the airwaves at this time, Khago and I-Octane, as well as dancehall's mumma, Lady Saw, were the clear standouts.
Khago was first up and like his performance at Reggae Sumfest earlier this year, he was able to hold the audience from the opening note of his hit tune, Cyaan Cool. From then he just kept going culminating with Nah Sell Out and the follow-up Part 2. Portmore's own I-Octane was another act who the Sting fans had come out to see. Dressed in red from head to toe, this conscious crusader was taking no prisoners as he unleashed his popular tracks on the entertainment-starved patrons. Tracks My Life, Mamma and Lose a Friend sent fireworks and fire crackers exploding in the morning sky.
After a seven-year break the queen of the dancehall, Lady Saw was truly ready for her Sting audience, who in turn, by their reaction, clearly missed her performance. In recent time, Saw has brought out her alter ego, Marion Hall, the smoother, more gentle performer -- but for Sting, Marion was obviously left at home back it St Mary, possibly tucked in, under the covers fast asleep, as it was vintage Lady Saw in full flight.
She managed to keep on her wig and shoes this time round, and 'lucky' cameramen were spared being used as props, as she dipped into her bag o' tricks and came up a winner even earning a legitimate 'forward'. Her fellow deejays were not spared, Kartel, Mavado, Lisa Hyper, Aidonia, Beenie Man and even Buju, got a lashing from Mumma. However, in Buju's case she said she could not hit him too hard and prayed that his legal situation ends. She would close with anthems If Him Lef' and It's Raining, these left Jamworld on a high.
Billed as the collaboration — deviating from its usual diet of clash-inspired performances — the performers in Sting's early segment of the show seemed content on sticking to the old formula of 'dropping words'. However, what would have been the night's major clash between the talent show runners-up — Kings and Queens of Dancehall's Reggae Queen, and Rising Stars' DJ Face — had to be aborted due to the use of profanity. But before that abrupt end, Sting 2010 was treated to some of the classic clash lyrics from both females with Reggae Queen declaring, "me come fi kill the Clarendon clown" and Face's rebuttal in which she referred to her challenger as "Reggae King Kong".
Deejay Kiprich, who has been known for his biting performance in recent times, was true to form, but just had to be content with 'dropping words', as there was no one to pick up. His set was interrupted as Beenie Man did a 'run on' and Assassin later joined what should have been a collaborative finale, but this fell flat.
The sparks also included Ce'Cile, the hilarious parody king Food Kartel, Romain Virgo, Richie Spice and Etana.

SEVEN-YEAR ITCH BRINGS LADY SAW BACK TO STING

She’s the acclaimed Muma of the dancehall who has mastered the art of delivering edgy – and sometimes downright raw—lyrics with the right amount of irreverence laced with humour. But, within her also lies her repentant alter ego, Marion Hall, the singer who can thrill a crowd at the Jamaica and Blues Festival.
However, come Sunday December 26 at Jamworld in Portmore, Marion Hall will be tucked away in bed, as the diva of the dancehall, Lady Saw mounts the Sting stage to deliver a rare performance. It’s been seven years since Saw last thrilled fans at the Boxing Day event with her hardcore lyrics, delivered in her raunchy and lovable style, and she is looking forward to a triumphant return.
The deejay, who earlier this year released her eights studio album, My Way, says her "return” to the Sting stage will be nothing short of spectacular. One of two females in the blistering ’13 Warriors’ segment, Lady Saw is approaching the upcoming event as a serious challenge.
“We know that Mr. Laing says there will be no war at Sting, but who really believe him? This is Sting and tings haffi gwaan. As far as I can see, there will be a lot of issues to be settled with some artistes,” Lady Saw expressed.
And, while Lady Saw has no intention of getting into any kind of “kas kas” with any artiste at Sting, she is busy sharpening her pencils, as she knows that Sting is not for the faint of heart.
“I’m here studying for Sting,” she said in a telephone interview from her St Mary home. “Yeah man. This is Sting and as an artiste you have to be prepared. You can’t go with any and any ting. I’ve written some songs especially for the Sting crowd, so I’m here at home going through them, getting the delivery and those things right,” Saw explained.
She notes that she has already rehearsed with Ruff Kut and “things are shaping up good. I’m pretty excited about this upcoming Sting performance,” she said.
Meanwhile, Lady Saw is also reveling in the recent release of the official Lady Saw app, which fans are being urged to download and get connected to the Queen of Dancehall. She explained that this new app is one way to get the latest Lady Saw music, videos, pictures, show info and much more.
Saw also has several new ringtone’s available including, He’s At My House featuring EVE her newest single off of her My Way album.
“The app is very cool and takes Lady Saw right up there with cutting edge technology,” she sated.
As for Sting, she said with a lot of sass, “A we seh Party Till December … so we are gonna make this December show a party to remember.”

I-OCTANE CLOSES 2010 ON A HIGH NOTE

Recently named Best Cultural Artiste for 2010 at the respected Stone Love Awards, singer Byiome Muir, aka I-Octane, is full of gratitude for this honour, while vowing to continue the musical mission started by reggae’s greatest singers.
I-Octane easily admits that 2010 has been a turning point in his career and many are saying that it could aptly be described as ‘the year of I-Octane’. It has seen his songs having immense impact locally and internationally, even as his lyrics fall easily from the lips of fans of all ages and across all socio-economic backgrounds.
The year has also witnessed an undeniable rise in the I-Octane’s popularity, evidenced by the frenzied reactions of concert-goers to his performances and his increasing demands for live appearances. The decision by telecoms giant, Digicel, to sign I-Octane as one of the wholesome faces of their media campaign has also proved significant..
“In 2010 I have made strides in my career and it feels good. Of course, the fans have played an important role in all that has happened, because without fans it’s like your music isn’t reaching anywhere,” I-Octane declared.
With the traditional silly season in high gear, the artiste had already been off to a great start. I-Octane’s annual Christmas Treat and free stage-show in Portmore was a resounding success, he has been performed at the Digicel Tree Lighting Ceremony in the Sunshine Community, and also at the free Red Stripe Stand Out concert recently on Knutsford Blvd, New Kingston, all to much acclaim.
I-Octane is now eagerly looking forward to the upcoming shows for which he has been contracted. Among them are My Life Nuh Easy on Christmas Eve, Fip Jam Fest and GT TAYLOR Christmas Extravaganza, both on Christmas Day; and TeenSplash and Sting on Boxing Day.
He commented: “This is a great way to close what has been a truly wonderful year.”

Nicki Minaj Sex Tape Examined

Besides making a million off a mixtape, allegedly everyone’s new found favorite Barbie, Nicki Minaj is the latest celebrity to have a sex tape hit the Web. The tape is reportedly being punted around with an asking price of $100,000, and it is claimed that it features the 26-year-old before she rose to fame.
Maybe Roman is actually getting his revenge after all.
It’s not certain that this alleged sex tape will be released or even exists, however, everyone adores the thought of a possible juicy sex scandal. Why are we even so concerned with what celebrities do in the privacy of their bedroom?

Nicki Minaj's Ex-Manager On Pink Friday: "It's Terrible!"

Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday has quickly become one of the year's biggest successes, breaking the record for female rapper first week sales, and managing to go past Gold in its 3rd week, but one person is not a fan of the Harajuku Barbie's album - her ex-manager Debra Antney. In a recent interview with Billboard Magazine, Antney - who also manages Waka Flocka Flame & Gucci Mane, - said, on the topic of Pink Friday,"It's terrible. I like some stuff, but she went too left. I don't think people were ready for her to come [out with pop]. When I had Nicki, I really wanted her to sing. That's why I took her for training cause Nicki loves singing, but she kept saying to me, 'Deb, I can't do it yet because people won't understand.' And that's why the [rap] mixture was done to introduce them to all of Nicki. I think ["Pink Friday"] was very disappointing to a lot of her fans." Ms. Antney also shared her thoughts on the Minaj/Lil' Kim 'beef,' saying that Nicki "didn't have to go there with [Lil' Kim]. My views on that is that she came too far to go back that route. And Kim does not even have to go there. There are no comparisons to them. Some things are best left unsaid. The whole things is stupid." Well damn!

Nicki Minaj & Busta Rhymes "Roman's Revenge" (NEW REMIX)

Nicki Minaj's angriest, hardest track off her hit debut album "Pink Friday" now has the addition of Busta Rhymes. Busta is currently hard at work on his own record, but he found time to spit his own fire, on Nicki's acerbic track.
“Nicki, how you gon take my hot line and make it a hot song, like I ain’t posed to come and step on this shit like King Kong,” he raps furiously.
Aside from Busta, "Roman" is pretty much the same. What do you think? Do you miss Eminem or do you like Busta's addition better?

FUTURE FAMBO READY FOR STING

Comeback Kid, Future Fambo, whose career has seen a fruitful resurgence in 2010, is getting ready to perform on one of the biggest shows this season – Sting.

The deejay sees this as a great way to close off a year in which he has performed in every parish across the island, several Caribbean territories, North America and Europe.

With his monster hit, Rum and Red Bull racing up charts and claiming number one spots locally and internationally, Fambo, the self-titled Drunken Master of the Dancehall, has been kept very busy, not only by performing, but also in the studio voicing follow-up songs.

Fambo’s studio efforts have paid off handsomely and singles including Swagaholic, Pop Bottle, and This Life have found favour with fans locally, in the Diaspora and the Caribbean. Even Fambo himself has been surprised at the popularity of the songs when he performs overseas and fans sing them word for word.
“This year has been really a great one for me. I give thanks for the blessing – nuff nuff blessings – and the love from the fans,” he said humbly.
He added that he has invested in his career and has done music videos for some of his singles, the last such video being This Life, which was premiered last month.
“Right now it’s all about Sting. Last year this time I had no idea that I would be considered for this show in 2010, but when your time comes nothing can stop it. You just have to take advantage of it and keep your focus,” he declared, adding that his last Sting performance was five years ago.

Does Future Fambo have any surprises for his fans at Sting?

“Well, you know I am the Drunken Master, never sober,” he said with a laugh. “Seriously though, fans can expect the best of Future Fambo. The usual high energy performance combined with good music and lots of swagga,” Fambo promised.

Sting, the annual Boxing Day gala, is scheduled for Jamworld in Portmore, St Catherine on December 26.

JA-RULE SENTENCED TO TWO YEARS IN PRISON

Ja-Rule is about to do a bid. The Murder Inc rapper plead guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon stemming from a July 2007 stop of his luxury sports car. The night in question is now known as a sad day for hip hop, because Lil Wayne was also arrested on gun charges, after appearing with Ja Rule at the same concert. Lil Wayne was arrested with .40-caliber pistols after he headlined a concert Sunday night at the Beacon Theatre.
Ja Rule appeared on stage that same night to perform 2 songs during Lil Wayne's set and when they left both of their lives would be changed forever. Lil Wayne recently got out of jail last month after serving 8 months of a year-long sentence, while today Ja-Rule found out how long he would be in for.
According to the AP: the Pain is Love rapper said "guilty" and answered yes to a judge's questions in a low voice. "Because of your guilty plea here today, you'll have a record of having committed a violent felony. This is a very serious matter," Manhattan state Supreme Court Justice Richard Carruthers told the rapper.
Let's all send our prayers to Ja Rule and his family and hope this bid goes by fast for him. FYI fake guns are cooler than real ones.

Is Nicki Minaj Here to Stay or Temporarily Filling a Void?

By Bené Viera

You don’t have to be a fan of Nicki Minaj’s to respect the woman’s hustle. In a few short years Minaj went from dropping bars on “The Come Up” DVD to rhyming on tracks with the likes of Jay-Z and Kanye. Not only is she dominating the game as a female, but she is one of the hardest working rappers in hip-hop period. It was inevitable she would begin to create an empire far surpassing the realms of music.

MAVADO BIRTHDAY PARTY CANCELLED

“Due to circumstances beyond our control, Mavado has taken the decision to cancel this year's staging of the LIME Real McKoy event”.
“We know there will be thousands of disappointed fans who had planned to attend, Mavado shares your disappointment”

“We received a police permit on October 20 for the original venue, Coruba Beach Club, but were shocked to receive another letter from the same branch of the JCF revoking that permit just last week. Mavado has taken a huge financial loss in this endeavour as the promotion team did not spend a dollar until the police permit was in place. Alas, it seems not even that can be relied upon”.

“Since we received the letter of refusal at least 3 events have been held at that same venue, so while we are not surprised that Mavado's event has been targeted, its still a bitter pill. Alternative venues were sort out but the logistics were just too much to take on at the last minute so the decision was taken to pull the plug on the event for 2010”.

“If you can recall, this is something that seems to blight Mavado's birthday bash year after year, we leave it to the public to make up their own minds as to why that is”.

“We would like to thank our title sponsor LIME, a fantastic company who believes in Mavado and the positive image and music he outputs and continues to stand by him. Likewise Jagra, who played a big part in last year's staging of the event, alongside Appleton who came on board for the first time this year”.
