I-OCTANE RELEASES HOT NEW SINGLE

• Gearing up for Barbados debut

KINGSTON JAMAICA - When it comes on to hitting the right conscious musical notes, singjay I-Octane seems to have found the right formula.
That is a proven fact with numbers such as Lose A Friend, My Life and the ganja loving Puff It. But there is no easing up as the Digicel Brand Ambassador is once more at it, this time with Burn Dem Bridge.
Ever since it hit the airwaves it has been receiving a steady buzz, it has even caught on already in parts of the Caribbean as evidenced by the eager response he got from his recent performance in St Kitts.
Listening to Burn Dem Bridge it is easy to figure out why it has been embraced by music listeners. Recorded to a catchy beat I-Octane chants “Tek up inna tings dem neva ask the Lord fah, it’s not a laughing matter, ungratefulness causes disaster… dem burn dem bridge..”
The song comes with the singjay trademark philosophy on life and his stance on living it.
Burn Dem Bridge was produced by Big Ship’s Stephen Di Genius McGregor and sees singer and producer working together for the first time.
I-Octane commenting on the song says he likes the vibes he has been receiving since its release. He can’t wait for the video to be done as he says the director Mykal Cushine is already brimming with ideas regarding it.
“The video should have been shot from last week, but rain played havoc with that plan,” the singjay said in a release.
He explained that the shooting date has now been pushed back to this week, “It will be worth it though,” he promised.
Following the video shoot, I-Octane will be gearing up for another first – performing in Barbados at the Midway House Car Park on October 29.
“I am really looking forward to winning over new fans and giving my fans there a treat,” he quipped about his upcoming gig.

‘Nothing but the love of God,’ says Prodigal about edgy love song

Gospel artiste Prodigal Son confesses that he has the love of God boiling up and coursing through every cell in his body. And as a way of expressing that uniquely intimate relationship with his Maker, the artiste has penned a song like no other.
Entitled Love Me Like This, the single on his very own Radikal Prodigal label, is as confounding as it is enticing. Amid all debate about the edginess of the song, one thing is crystal clear, Love Me Like This is a love song. However, the question that arises is: Love for whom? Is Prodigal Son expressing his love for a God who loves him unconditionally – the agape type of love? Or is he pouring out his passionate love for a woman – the eros?
“This is definitely all about my love for God. This is my testimony,” Prodigal Son says without even a hint of a smile.
As a matter of fact, with all that is being said about the single and its inappropriateness for church worship, the artiste refuses to go into defense mode. Prodigal Son instead takes time to quietly emphasise the fact that “all love is from God and of God” and that church music is always evolving.
“As one who ministers to souls, I have to find creative ways to speak to this generation in particular … Generation X as it is called … to get their attention and get them to focus on God. We all know the power of music and I consider myself a vessel through which this music is passed,” Prodigal declared.
A quick listen reveals that the writing is quite clever and there are certain expressions and phrases contained in Love Me Like Thisthat are at best ambiguous, and at worst, downright steamy. It starts out with a line from the Minnie Ripperton’s mega hit single, “Loving you is easy cause you’re beautiful” and then the expressions of undying love move from strength to strength with graphic descriptions.
And, even though the artiste admits, Love Me Like This can be listened to on two levels, Prodigal Son says that, like many Christians who listen to and love the song, he sees God shining through the lyrics.
“It is my love song to a loving God. Rather than take a secular love song and turn it into a Christian song, like some singers do, I have chosen to dedicate a love song to the Father. It could be considered my personal rededication to God, which is really something that, as Christians, we need to do daily,” Prodigal said.
And, as he says so passionately at the end of the song, “Lord God, you have mi heart.”

Drake Pushes ‘Take Care’ to November

Drake won’t be celebrating his album release on his birthday after all. The hip-hop superstar has delayed the release of his sophomore album Take Care from October 24 to November 15. In a message posted on his OVO blog, Drizzy explained the reason for the pushback, saying that he is having difficulty clearing three samples in time.
“My options were to take the songs off and make the birthday release happen, or to take an extra couple weeks to get the paper work right and give you the album they way I NEED you to hear it,” he wrote.
The follow-up to Thank Me Later will arrive in the form he intended instead of being rushed to make the date. He has subsequently moved his “Club Paradise” tour to next year. Dates will be announced in the coming week.

Read his full explanation below.

The new date for Take Care is November 15th, 2011. I managed to create this album in my hometown of Toronto and the thoughts and stories I wanted to get across just became so clear. It truly felt like when I was here 3 years ago making So Far Gone. So I have completed 19 songs (17 on physical and 2 on bonus), and have run into a roadblock of clearing 3 samples in time to make the October 24th date. My options were to take the songs off and make the birthday release happen, or to take an extra couple weeks to get the paper work right and give you the album they way I NEED you to hear it. The choice was clear as day for me. November 15th you will get Take Care the exact way I created it with no trimmings. This music means too much to me to get attached to dates and I do apologize for the delay but I promise that it is only for the benefit of our experience together. Club Paradise Tour will also be moved to when students are back from the Christmas/New Year break so that I can get to more schools. New dates will be released in the next week…see you all soon.

I-OCTANE GAVE SMASHING PERFORMANCES IN ST KITTS, COSTA RICA

• On to new challenges
Two separate venues, huge crowds, but there was, no doubting the high-energy performance that singjay I-Octane dished out in St Kitts and Costa Rica.
His first of two performances came in Costa Rica where he performed on More Life Fest 2K11 on September 30 alongside fellow Jamaican Tanya Stephens.
He exploded on stage to loud cheers and great enthusiasm from his fans there as he dished out one conscious number after another.
A few days later, October 2nd, to be exact he was in St Kitts at Beamount Park Race Track performing on So Long To Summer Bash.
Following the excitement of the day’s horse racing, I-Octane performing on tracks delivered a sterling hour-long set to over 4,000 patrons.
So impressive was he that the promoters didn’t waste any time in confirming him one year early for the annual event.
The organizers weren’t the only ones who were in for a surprise on the event as the artiste himself was a bit taken off guard.
“I couldn’t believe that my fans were singing along to songs which had just been released only a few weeks ago,” I-Octane said.
Among the songs he unleashed on his St Kitts fans were Burn Dem Bridge, Licki Licki, Fly Again and of course favourites such as Puff It, I A Cry, My Life and Study Yuh Friend Dem.
Now back on the rock, the Digicel brand ambassador shot a medley video for his latest singles for producer Good Good Promotions Enemy Yard and Nah Eat featuring Versatile.
Directed by Mykal Cushnie, it was shot on location in Morant Bay, St Thomas with production duties assigned to Melissa Llewellyn.
“We had a great time shooting the video. Honestly, I think my fans will love this one,” said Octane about the video which he says should be ready to premiere real soon.

DA’VILLE SCORES WITH WHEN I’M WITH YOU

With his husky voice delivering as only he can, singer Da’ville has scored yet another number one, this time it’s with his latest single When I’m With You.

Listening to him you can almost feel yourself being enveloped in his ultra smooth voice as the soothing strains of the sweet reggae music adds that perfect touch.

Da’ville definitely hit all the right notes in When I’m With You and it’s not surprising that the song has made its way to the number one spot on Jamaica Music Chart and is now in the number 9 position on Hype TV Top 20 chart;

But then number ones are nothing new to the singer as he has found himself in that position many times. Among his top scoring numbers were In Heaven, Can’t Get Over You and On My Mind.

That Da’ville has a passion for singing is no secret as he often jokes that he was born singing.

As a youth, singing was his only escape from the trauma and painful life he was going through growing up. “My life was hard and to escape it all, I sang in church and at all the local school functions,” he reminisced.

Fast track to 2011 and Da’ville is still very much doing what he does best – delivering heartwarming songs from a voice that just pulls you in.

Now under the direction of his own Indie Label, Fashozy Records Inc., Da'Ville

is intent on riding the waves of success where his career is concerned.

The singer is already off to a flying start with his music being embraced in Japan, USA and the Caribbean.

“The best is yet to come,” promise Da’ville as he continues to record winsome numbers.

'TEACHA'S PET' FUTURE UNDECIDED

By Sadeke Brooks and Krista Henry

KINGSTON, JAMAICA - Following LIME's withdrawal of their sponsorship of the reality show Teacha's Pet, a decision is yet to be made whether the show will be discontinued or aired without the communication giant's backing.

The STAR spoke with the producers of the show yesterday who disclosed that they are still in discussions about what decision will be made about the future of Teacha's Pet. They explained that a decision will be reached very soon.

This comes in light of LIME's announcement that they will stop airing Teacha's Pet on their LIME mobile TV. When news spread that the show's star Vybz Kartel had been arrested on Friday and charged with illegal possession of ganga, LIME immediately went in discussions with Creative Source Production, prod-ucers of the show Teacha's Pet.

The company said it would be monitoring the situation surrounding the dancehall artiste, before deciding the show's fate.

But in a statement yesterday, after the artiste was charged with murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of firearm, LIME announced that it will be pulling the show from its mobile TV. The show was premiered on CVM TV at 10 p.m. on September 23, while the 'Too Hot For TV' episode was aired on LIME's Peppa channel.

In a statement yesterday, LIME said, "Due to the serious nature of the charges against Vybz Kartel, LIME has taken the decision to discontinue its broadcast of Teacha's Pet on mobile TV with immediate effect. The issue is a legal matter, which is the purview of the security forces and the courts and LIME will not comment any further at this time."

Meanwhile, Vybz Kartel did not appear in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday as scheduled. When his lawyer, Christian Tavares-Finson turned up, he was told the case would not be heard and has been rescheduled.

The dancehall entertainer, real name is Adidja Palmer, is accused of conspiring with other men to kill 27-year-old businessman Barrington Burton, otherwise called 'Bossie'. The police said Burton was murdered while he was standing with friends along Walkers Avenue in Gregory Park, St Catherine.
