UPDATE: ROADBLOCKS INCREASE, GUNSHOTS LOUD IN WEST KINGSTON

By KIMMO MATTHEWS

ROADBLOCKS reaching as far as Heroes Circle were set up in Kingston this morning, and police came under fire as they tried to clear the debris.
At the Admiral Town Police Station on Slipe Pen Road, cops said they were on high alert, following attacks on cops from that station who tried to help clear the roadblocks.
The Observer news team is unable to get to the Denham Town Police Station which serves the Tivoli Gardens community because of roadblocks along Spanish Town Road.
The sound of gunshots can, however, be heard from the Observer's location near the St Andrew Technical High School.
The area has been tense since Prime Minister Bruce Golding announced last week that the process had been started to facilitate the extradition of Tivoli Gardens Don Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke.
Since then, Tivoli and Denham Town residents have mounted roadblocks barricading their communities from the police who need to enter to serve an arrest warrant on Coke.

DENNO MAKES BOLD STATEMENTS WITH NEW SINGLES

Make It, Mi Feel It and Dem Nuh Real are three of the current singles from Denno, the newest kid on the block who is eager and ready to make his mark on the music business.
Denno is signed to Master One Production, which has officially released the singer’s first set of singles on that record label. The tunes are enjoying enviable blasts on radio and also in the dancehall where Denno’s popularity is steadily increasing.

Both the record label and the artiste report that the response from the discriminating music-loving public has been encouraging, to say the least.

"We are on a mission to give the massives the type of music that opens the mind and makes people think," Denno explained. "So it's not surprising that the feedback is good ... but we still feel good," he added.

These songs fit nicely in a "reality" package and are typical of the kind of lyrics streaming from Denno's pen.

The singer says his writing is influenced by real-life events currently taking place in the world and the negative effect our lifestyle on the environment.

Denno has previously worked on projects with Earth Production Promotional label, for whom he did a collaboration with singer Ojah, called Prayer for the Haitians. The song has received heavy rotation both locally and internationally and helped to boost the artiste's visibility and profile. A supporting video has also been made for that single.

A graduate of the Bridgeport High School in Portmore, St Catherine, Denno writes all his material himself and has also assisted other artistes with writing their songs.

The singer, who is clean cut, says he is influenced by reggae icon Bob Marley, Cocoa Tea, Richie Spice, Queen Ifrica and Buju Banton, all of whom are Rastafarians.

"I pattern myself, lyrically, on some Jamaica's musical icons of yesteryear and also those who are making an impact currently. I look at their approach to work and what they have accomplished musically and set my sights there," Denno explained.
