Spice Brings Bedroom Excitement To Sumfest Stage Last Night

MONTEGO, JAMAICA - With dancehall artiste Spice being among the few female acts on the Reggae Sumfest line-up for Dancehall night, the queen of the stage did not disappoint, as her performance earned her a place among the event's top performers last night.

Spice transformed the stage into her bedroom, literally. Known for her usual stand out entrances, Spice made her way to the stage on a bed accompanied by her dancers, all clad in robes.

The entertainer emerged from her bed and went straight into a rendition of her song, Sheet. Calling for a man to join here on stage, Spice engaged the audience from start to finish and earned one of the biggest forwards of the night for her efforts.

Spice, decked out in a body fitting-gold suit beneath the robe, delivered songs such as Indicator and So Me Like It.

Digicel Rising Star Delando Colley collaborates with Jamaica’s Top Striker Black Mattic

KINGSTON, JAMAICA - A collaboration for all ages, Delando Colley and Black Mattic join forces on Better Place produced by ZJ Elektra of Elektracute Music Group (EMG).

Better Place speaks about uplifting oneself and others, despite the struggles which one goes through daily, the song encourages everyone to not give up.   In whatever field of work, one can agree that to live each day is to survive and as such being alive is a blessing. 

After being placed third in the Digicel Rising Stars Competition in 2011 at the age of 16, Delando Colley sought to follow his dream as an artiste and further his passion at the Edna Manley College of Performing Arts.  Fast forward to present year 2017, on the scene with a few singles, Better Place seeks to re-introduce Delando to Jamaica and the world with his catchy hook.

“I’m gonna take myself to a better place, no matter how long it takes I will be fighting on the way…”

Black Mattic known for hits such as “Hero Dance”, “3310 Rock” and “2lb sugar” has been working on his latest album “Press Play”.  He recently stated “This thing that we call the music industry is very tricky and it can be complicated at times.  Other musicians and djs will try and stop your progress if they recognize how great your potential is.   I have experienced this first hand since the merger of OHMG, which is my label and ZJ Elektra’s label EMG. I have no doubt Delando shares a similar struggle with his musical journey.  I believe this fight spreads beyond music into all sectors.  Despite this, they fail to understand that this propels us to work harder and smarter. Better Place will serve as a motivational song for our peers as this was our intended message.”

Nevertheless, Delando Colley and Black Mattic both recognize that this world needs more love, more patience, more strength, more forgiveness, more optimism, more humility, more understanding, more education, in a nutshell, this world needs a Better Place.

DEVIN DI DAKTA HITS BILLBOARD HOT ROCK SONGS CHART

KINGSTON, JAMAICA - Former Magnum King of the Dancehall winner Devin Di Dakta has become the first winner from the televised competition to enter the Billboard charts.

Devin is featured on the track Oh Devil by California band Electric Guest.  The song enters the Billboard Hot Rock Songs chart at number 47. It was released by Downtown Records.

In a media release, Devin spoke about his latest accomplishment.

‘Making the billboard chart is a great accomplishment that I'm thankful for. I’m feeling excited right now’, he said.

The collaboration came about after an A&R from the California based Downtown Records reached out to Devin’s management after watching YouTube clips of his performance during the Magnum King of the Dancehall competition.

‘They reached out to us about the feature on the song after they saw my work on the internet and fell in love my musical style’, said Devin.

“Devin cracking the Billboard Hot Rock Song chart with this collaboration is one more way that Dancehall culture has broken through the glass ceiling of popular international music.  We are extremely proud of Devin’s accomplishment, especially following his Grammy nomination this year.  We are happy to support his career from Magnum Kings & Queens to the Grammy’s and now to the Billboard Charts’, said Tamika West, Marketing Manager, J Wray & Nephew Ltd, title sponsor for the Magnum King of the Dancehall competition.

She added ‘It’s amazing that a local television show such as Magnum can be seen internationally as a platform to discover new talent’.

Devin is currently promoting the song Beautiful and is set to release another single Get Hot. Videos for both songs are to be completed shortly.

He is also booked for Reggae Sumfest Dancehall Night.

Businessman gunned down contract style in his Benz SUV on Ruthven Road

KINGSTON, JAMAICA - The police are probing the contract style killing of popular

businessman Richard Ramdial, whose family operates Ramdial Auto Sales and Accessories on Beechwood Avenue in St. Andrew. He was shot was in traffic sometime after 4:40pm along Ruthven Road on Tuesday afternoon when two men reportedly approached his dark blue Mercedez Benz SUV and pumped more than a dozen bullets through the window on the driver's side.

Some reports say that the killers were two men in a white Toyota Camry motorcar which was parked on Ruthven Road, but other reports say the killer was a lone man who subsequently escaped on a bike. Alighted the vehicle and opened fire on Mr. Ramdial who was driving a Mercedes Benz.

The businessman was taken to the University Hospital of the West Indies where he was pronounced dead.

The incident caused panic as several motorists attempted to flee the scene when the barrage of gunshots were fired.

On-the-rise dancehall artiste Kenniel Brown, aka Kenny Bling, has vowed to make his mark in 2017 and with the summer upon us, the singjay looks set to make that promise a reality. His Afar Music Group-produced single, Mi Chargie, is proving to be the perfect remedy for Dancehall hungry fans. On the infectious Level Up riddim, Mi Chargie can best be described as “a reality tune that couldn't be any more real”. It tells the true-to-life experience of the singer/songwriter, Kenny Bling, and its themes of friendship and loyalty are two which many can closely identify with, and have not hesitated to embrace.

"I am singing about my own life… the friends around me and how we live. Genio, one of the names mentioned in the song is a real person. He is a loyal friend from a long time," explained Kenny Bling, who credits his father, veteran dancehall deejay Oneil “Scully” Brown, with instilling in him the passion for music. Kenny added that with the loads of positive feedback that he has been receiving, Mi Chargie "looks like the one".

The single has been enjoying high level rotation in places as far away as Russia, a few countries in Europe, nearer home in the US and, of course right here "a yard". Among the radio stations in Jamaica that have been showing love for Mi Chargie are Zip, Irie FM, Hitz and Suncity, and Kenny Bling is more than pleased. Interestingly, the streets have also stepped in and taken the song to another level with big name selectors including Boom Boom giving Mi Chargie the seal of approval with massive airplay in the dance. 

Hard on the heels of the label releasing Kenny Bling's first single for them, Afar Music Group (AFM) in recognition of Kenny's immense talent and potential, has signed the artiste to a recording contract. Eager to get back in the studio, the AFM team has already started a new project, but the main focus for now is the marketing and promotion of Mi Chargie, especially in the lead up to Jamaica's internationally acclaimed annual Reggae and Dancehall festival Reggae Sumfest.

Vybz Kartel hates me, says Popcaan

Dancehall artiste Popcaan recently told BBC 1XTRA that he is hated by mentor Vybz Kartel due to his mainstream success.

According to the deejay, who claimed that he loved Vybz Kartel the most during his performance at Sting 2012, the dancehall space is filled with jealousy, and envy.

"Dancehall artistes don't like the ones who are progressive. When you are on a low level, you have the most friends in music. When you going up, you have less friends, and I learnt that a long time ago," he said. "Since I have been around Vybz Kartel, a lot of people used to hate Vybz Kartel, but he stayed on top. I learn that lesson from him and that is why he, Vybz Kartel, hates Popcaan today. I will forever be on top ... because I learn that from him."

 TRYING TO FEED THEiR FAMILIES

The Billboard-charting/MOBO Award winner also said it is unfortunate to see the large amount of hate that has been levelled against dancehall artistes who are simply trying to feed their families through hard work.

"One artiste can contribute to 50 per cent of dancehall and if that person hates you that is a problem. Me as a man from my humble beginnings, who grow with my granny ... man come from bush, real bush, from nothing. All I try to do is take care of my family, and people have a problem with that. It is not my job to tell people what to say or how to live. So it's nobody's job to tell Popcaan how to live," Popcaan said.

However, it would appear that Kartel is not the only person disgruntled with Popcaan. Fellow incarcerated dancehall artiste Shawn Storm recently released a diss song called No Frauds targeting the deejay.

When contacted, a member of Shawn Storm's management team, who requested to remain anonymous, told THE STAR that the song was intended to address Popcaan's alleged disloyalty to Kartel and Storm.

"From Shawn and Vybz Kartel have been incarcerated, I don't think he has visited them even one time or check with their family. Remember that after everybody left Gaza it was only Popcaan, Gaza Slim, Shawn Storm and Vybz Kartel. Popcaan is acting like they never existed. I want you to please note that this song was recorded long time, but we just decided to release it because it's timely," she said, making it clear that Storm hasn't been recording behind bars.

She said the song is not about war, but rather to remind Popcaan where he is coming from.

Popcaan was unavailable for a comment. Several calls to his phone went unanswered.

Spice lands first corporate deal

KINGSTON, JAMAICA: Dancehall artiste Spice has secured her first major partnership with a corporate company.

The hard-core female entertainer signed a deal with Sperone Moscato Jamaica, and is now the company's newest ambassador. The line of Italian Sparkling Moscatos is distributed by Select Brands Limited, one of the largest distributors of wines and spirits in Jamaica.

Spice told THE WEEKEND STAR that she was overwhelmed at the opportunity, but was hesitant at first because she wasn't sure if her image and the corporate world would work well.

"Sperone's marketing manager reached out to my business partner, Romeich, to contact me with the proposal," she explained. "When Romeich contacted me, the first thing I said was that I wouldn't be able to do it because most corporate companies probably want me to adjust and tone down who I am, including my wild stage performances."

To her surprise, the deal did not require her to make any adjustments to her raunchy dancehall image.

"When I was told that they know what I'm about and they want me to represent their product regardless, I was so excited and overwhelmed. I realise now how much the brand loves and supports dancehall, and I will encourage every single person to support them," she said.

PROMOTE THE PRODUCT

The new deal will see Spice appearing on Billboards and in advertisements as the new face of the product. As an ambassador, she is expected to promote the product, something she says will be easy.

"It's the only thing I drink since lately. I will use my huge fan base to showcase the product across the island. A di hottest bottle a wine in the streets right now anyway. It's a product that is loved, so this will be easy," Spice said.

The entertainer has been enjoying media attention and much success in recent times, especially following her appearance on the VH1 hit TV series Love and Hip Hop.

Reggae singer Droop Lion drops new 'Ideologies' album today

Beres Hammond, I-Octane Give Thrilling Performance ... During Former NoMadz Member's Wedding Reception

Vibes master Beres Hammond, dancehall artiste I-Octane and a rising star by the name of Daniel 'Brighter' Gordon created musical magic at Christopher and Maria Gordon's wedding reception at the Tryall Club in Hanover over the weekend.

Gordon, formerly of No-Maddz, also joined the amazingly awesome concert, performing for his new bride, in what could easily assume the position of being one of the most entertaining weddings this year.

Held at the stunning Stella by the Sea Villa, Beres Hammond entered the stage at just about 10 p.m., and his one-hour set totally mesmerised the intimate audience which waited anxiously for his arrival.

It was obvious that the party people who turned out for the wedding were willing to watch their idol, transfixed on stage, not saying a word, while his efficient backup singers, Deja and Dorette Wisdom, took charge. However, the veteran crooner, who is as good as every dollar he charges, serenaded the couple with one of his hit songs, She Loves Me Now.

When he pulled for popular personal anthems such as, Come Back Home and belted the words, "I wish you would stay longer," he never even needed to repeat the words, because it is an undisputable fact that Beres Hammond fans will stay with him all night.

The words from one of his songs, 'Thought I Could Live Without You', sounded almost like an inappropriate statement, as there was no one at this wedding party that would go home without Hammond, even if it was only the sound of his voice humming in their head.

A feel good jam session it was, to the extent that when the vibes master pulled for songs like Double Trouble, and Pull Up The Vibes, it was evident that he had only one care in the world, to satisfy the souls of his audience.

I-Octane

Living up to expectations of being one of dancehall's best, I-Octane brought a lot of energy and magnetism to the stage, choosing to have a performance built on conversing with the audience. Decked out in all-white, the artiste known for hits such as, Lose A Friend, Buss A Blank and Party Turn Up, performed for a solid 60 minutes, dedicating some of his time to mothers and women in the country.

Allowing young Daniel 'Brighter' Gordon, brother of the groom to have his five minutes of fame on stage, the youngster with a voice of gold, did not disappoint.

In fact, Brighter, brought immense excitement to the event. His presentation was followed by the unorthodox and extremely talented group that goes by the name NoMadz.

Christopher and Maria Gordon, tied the knot late last year and shared the moment officially with friends on Saturday.

FANS ANGRY THAT OCTANE EXCLUDED FROM REGGAE SUMFEST LINEUP 2017

KINGSTON, JAMAICA - Fans of dancehall artiste I Octane took to social media to voice their disgust with the revelation that Octane has not been booked to perform on this year's Reggae Sumfest concert in Montego Bay. 

I Octane closed the international festival on two occasions to rave reviews in the past, and he has been on a tear in recent weeks with incendiary performances at live shows such as 'New Rules', 'Britjam' and 'Top of the Line' so his exclusion from the line-up has caused consternation among his legion of fans when the official lineup was posted online on Wednesday. 

"I know that Sumfest is under new management but why no Octane, fans in the west love Octane, he always gives a great performance every year, he is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser so why the change?" one fan posed on Facebook.

The response on Twitter was just as incendiary. 

"How Sumfest so biased!? No Octane, no Sumfest!" @badgalrenee tweeted.  Another Twitter user, @monzashotta tweeted: 'wah Sumfest ah deal wid? How the Genna Octane no de pon the show this year after him bun it down 2016".

I-Octane has come a long way since his debut at Reggae Sumfest several years agoas an opening act and through his fiery performances gradually worked his way up to appearing later on the festival to become a middle-order artiste in 2011, when he delivered a set that surpassed the expectations of the Reggae Sumfest crowd. Over the years, I-Octane has been consistent in his career and that has boosted him to become known as one of Jamaica's best artistes. He closed the festival two consecutive years, 2013 and 2014. 

He is known for massive hits such as Lose a Friend, L.O.V.E Y.O.U and Gyal A Gi Me Bun. 

Other artistes who have not been booked or announced for this year's edition of Reggae Sumfest include Popcaan, Assassin and Konshens.
