The 'real' Ce'Cile wants to perform locally ... Says Jamaican fans don't appreciate her
Ce'Cile traded in her 'bad gyal' persona for
the role of ambassador at the recently concluded Jamaica Association of
Composers, Authors and Publishers (JACAP) society's Open House Forum held at
the Knutsford Court Hotel in New Kingston.
Speaking passionately about her role,
Ce'Cile was generous in her praise of the copyright body of which she has been
a long-standing member.
She disclosed that she had benefited
tremendously since signing to the collections agency.
The JACAP ambassador left no stone unturned
as she urged fellow artistes to get their act together and become members of
JACAP.
"We always complain about the fact
that, 'things not going right' well, here is an organisation that is doing a
wonderful job of trying to turn this hustle mentality into a serious
business," Ce'Cile stated emphatically.
Getting a bit more personal, the artiste,
who recently returned from Europe, where she performed on several festivals,
explained that there are two Ce'Ciles, the local and the foreign.
She said the 'real Ce'Cile' was not wanted
in Jamaica and, as a result she performs her more serious, but equally
entertaining songs at festivals such as Rototom, where she is embraced and
respected for her complete repertoire, rather than a sample of salaciousness,
slackness and gyrations.
"When I was on my way from Europe, I
thought to myself , 'Okay, mi haffi go mek some fool-fool song for Jamaica
now," Ce'Cile admitted, to much laughter from the capacity audience at
JACAP's Open House Forum.
Ce'Cile, in the capacity of a JACAP
ambassador, ended with a call for her Jamaican audience to listen to her songs
and learn to appreciate the real Ce'Cile.
"I need to feel that I can perform the
same songs at Rottotom and in Jamaica," she said.
Guest speaker at JACAP's Open House Forum
was Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce Anthony Hylton who commended
JACAP for hosting such a timely forum under the theme 'Understanding Copyright
and Valuing the Rights of the Creators of Music'.
Also present at the forum were several
members of the music, media and entertainment fraternities including Mikey
Bennett, Gussie Clarke, Herbie Miller, Frankie Campbell, Clyde McKenzie, Evon
Mullings, Teddy Laidley, Mr Lexx, Tanice 'Soulchild' Morrison, Derrick '10
Percent' Brown, Brigitte Anderson, George Golding, Francois St Juste, Joan
Hutchinson, Judith Alberga and Adrian St Louis.
The emcee for the evening was Desmond Young,
a board member of JACAP and president of the Jamaica Federation of Musicians.

CECILE HITS FINAL LEG OF EUROPEAN TOUR
Motherhood
has not slowed down Jamaica's favourite 'Bad Gyal' any because less than a year
after the birth of her daughter, Cecile's career is firing on all
cylinders with performances scheduled for five major festivals this month.
"I had to
abruptly cancel a lot of shows during the summer of 2012 because of my
pregnancy so I before my daughter was four months old, I got back on the road
immediately to fulfill my obligations. Now I am pushing full speed ahead with
my European tour, I have some wonderful performances lined up for my
fans," Cecile said..
The final leg of
her summer tour kicked off on August 10 in Hoostraten,
Belgium at the Antilliaanse feesten. One week later, she will be doing
performances at the Furuvik Festival in Gayle, Sweden, then the Rototom
Festival, Spain on August 21st, after which, she will hit 'Fest in
the Park' in Oudenaarde, Belgium on August 23rd, and then climax
her tour with a bang at the annual Chiemsee Reggae festival in Ubersee,
Germany.
Before the Summer leg
of her tour, the 'Bad Gyal ' also performed for her fans across
the Caribbean in the islands of St Thomas, Guyana, Martinique,
Cecile has always been
known as a tireless worker in her professional dealings in the music industry.
So, last year, only four months after delivering her daughter, she rocked
audiences in St Martin, Guadeloupe and a sold out premier performance in
Dubai at the Music Room. Then she hit the road, doing a four week stint
which saw her doing performances in Nuoma, New Caledonia, as well as four
shows in Australia. After this blitz of performances, she kicked off the first
leg of her 2013 European Summer long tour making stops in
Luxemburg/France, Estonia, Denmark, Reunion Island, Finland, and multiple
stops in Germany.
"The tour has
been fantastic so far, and my fans can look out for some amazing performances
during this final leg of my European tour," she said.

CECILE TO PERFORM IN DUBAI THIS DECEMBER
Kingston Jamaica - International recording artiste Bad Gyal
CeCile is eagerly anticipating her trip to Dubai in December 1st.
“I am excited about
going, it’s always a great experience to visit different cultures to see how
the music is penetrating those markets, and I am definitely looking forward to
the trip,” she said in a release.
She will perform at
the Majestic Hotel's Music Room and judging by the fan response on Twitter, her
fans are all "waiting" impatiently for the arrival of Jamaica’s ‘bad
gyal’.
A tireless recording
artiste known for her distinct swagger and up-to-the-minute street vocabulary,
Cecile has barely missed a beat since becoming pregnant and having her baby
girl on August 27th. And now that she has returned to music full time, the
dividends are already paying off.
Reggae music critics
and insiders have been raving about her new reggae tracks, "If You"
and "Girl on the Side" which have been enjoying a lot of airplay.
Another single, the dancehall-flavoured "Put It Deh" CeCile is
bombing FM radio into submission, leaving many to wonder how she has been able
to seamlessly re-enter the competitive industry at such a high level.
The Bad Gyal mom
worked throughout her pregnancy (up to 7 months) so few people realized she was
actually pregnant.
“I didn't do
a lot of club shows because my fan base expects me to be sexy, I focused
instead on doing festivals where the emphasis is more on the music,” she said.
Now, she is back at
her sexy best.
Only two months after
giving birth, the energetic diva wowed thousands of people during her first gig
at the National Arena in Jamaica on October 15th. Her virtuoso performance
during the homecoming for the Jamaican Olympic athletes dubbed "Jamaica's
Music History Honoring Our Olympic" emphatically announced her return to
music.
“I loved the reception
of the audience, it was great,” she said.
CeCile, a homegrown
star from Manchester who attended Bishop Gibson High school, landed two major
international collaborations this year, both of which were released during her
pregnancy. One was the sexed-up party song "Boys Boys" with Brazilian
Group Bonde Do Role which was produced by Mad Decent and Diplo.
“Diplo sent me the
track, and it was just a blank track and he asked to lay down some vocals about
boys, the band vocals were not even there yet, and the song just took off,” she
said.
The other was the
offbeat and funky ‘Galaxies and Stars’ with Doctor P wowed Europe as another
massive dub step banger in the vein of her radio hit Gold Dust which,
coincidentally, is now back on BBC's 1xtra A playlist.
“Dubstep is big in the
UK, and the ‘Galaxies and Stars’ did well, but it is the Gold Dust song which
has really taken off, it was even played at the NBA All Star game earlier this
year,” she said.
Cecile was unable to
appear in the videos for the international collaborations as she was pregnant
at the time of the shoots.
She performed in St.
Maarten on November 17 for the annual Boardwalk Festival along with Steel Pulse
and returned to fan favourite Guadeloupe on November 24.
Expect a huge tour
announcement for the badgyal for the 2013 season and a slew of new reggae
releases including hits from super producer Chrome on his Cardiac Series, ZJ
Liquid, Johnny Wonda on Corna Shop, G Money's Prime (Kenya) to name a few!

CE’CILE REPS THE FEMALES WITH 'CHEATER'S REVENGE

Kingston Jamaica - Sassy songbird Cecile has never shied away from tackling controversial topics that are considered taboo in the Jamaican society. And her latest foray into the dynamic of sexual power in relationships center’s around the single, 'Cheater's Prayer the Female Refix (Cheater's Revenge)' a counteraction to Chris Martin's worldwide reggae hit of the same name where she declares outright that she is considering cheating on her boyfriend, whom she suspects is having an affair with another girl.
Produced by ZJ Chrome, the single has been in heavy rotation on local FM radio but is also generating considerable buzz in countries such as Bahamas, Belize, St Lucia, Kenya and is often played right after Chris Martin's 'Cheater's Prayer'.
"Chris had asked me to do it initially but I didn't want to do it, and then when I saw the reaction to the song in the clubs, I had to do it," Cecile said in a release.
"Another song on the same riddim, 'If You' is an answer but not a direct answer to Cheater's Prayer because there had to be a female side to this lover's dilemma, and then I ended up doing a dub for Chrome called Cheater's Revenge. And surprise surprise, it is the dubplate which got big and because of the demand, and so we put that out as a song, it is not even recorded properly, but there was such a great demand for it, especially in the Caribbean, with disc jockeys wanting to play it back to back with Chris' song, that it had to go out fast," she said, laughing.
Cecile said that music insiders soon realized that disc jockeys and selectors were actually recording the song off the radio, and dropping it on reggae mixes with the name of the disc jockey embedded in the song. So a decision was made to release the song as a single with Chrome's name edited.
"People were recording it off the radio with Chrome's name in it, it was crazy. In St. Lucia, a lot of females called the disc jocks over there and told them that there was another version, and asked why it wasn't being played. They actually felt slighted that it wasn't being played, and then they got their wish," she said.
Cecile has performed the song several times locally on stage shows, most notably at a PNP end-of-campaigning concert, the day before the national elections.
"The song got a big forward there, both man and woman love it, it is just one of those relationship songs which strikes a chord with people," she said.
The lyrics go:
Wait till him lef the yard/is ah next man ah come in ya/just wait till him lef the yard/a wah da bwoy ya tek mi fa
A good woman dont want want fi cheat
But some ah dem man ya ah over do it
Gal after gal after gal pon the street
We choose to be real but anno like we caan do it
Well, we anno fool, caan tek we fi fool
Disrespect we no tek, we can gi yu bun too
Yu waan play games, yo, yu wicked and rude
But I got a big surprise for you
The song has become a big favorite in local dances because it is an anthem for empowered females. And nobody can represent that particular segment of the population quite like Cecile.
