Chilando causing a stir in the UK

Montego Bay, JAMAICA:- The year 2015 is looking quite promising for emerging dancehall act, Chilando (Chy-lando), who is keen to prove himself on the global stage this year. Busy on the promotional trail with a set of songs which seem to have found quite a bit of favour within the dancehall, the singjay is confident that the big break is just a hair breath away.

“The songs have taken wings,” an enthusiastic Chilando reported in reference to the singles Life Too Short (Chimney Records) Stay Inna Yuh Lane and Wah Run Road Now on the Ghetto Bible riddim, which are enjoying good rotation on radio in the UK. According to the singjay’s management team, several disc jocks in the UK have been “risnsing the songs” and have been reaching out to them for interviews with the artiste and also for drops and specials. “The songs already have their visa, so it’s just a matter of time before Chilando secures his work permit for the UK,” the management stated.

In fact, so solid is this breakthrough that a mixtape done by DJ Lady K of Flames FM featuring the three songs – among others – was given a spotlight by DJ MissaJam who spins on the highly respected BBC1Extra. For Chilando and his team, this kind of exposure is better than anything they could have paid for. And, not surprisingly, it is already paying off, because as a result of this wave of popularity within the UK, Chilando was recently added to the line-up of the annual, star-studded, celebratory event, Brit Jam, which has been voted the number one party holiday from the UK. It is set for March 11 – 17 and Chilando will be performing on March 12 at the event entitled ‘I Will Be There’ at Aquasol Theme Park.

Bubbling with energy, the singjay whose hometown is Montego Bay, said that he was truly grateful to the disc jocks in the UK who have recognized his talent and are playing a crucial role  in helping him, as a young artiste, to secure his space in the dancehall. Chilando also disclosed that top British reggae/dancehall act, Gappy Ranks, has reached out to him and strengthened him with lots of positive vibes.

“Big respect to disc jocks such as Biggaau on Whoa FM; DJ Brit Jam Face on Flames FM; DJ Lady K on Inspiration FM; Sir DJ Corey on Flames (and who also fills in sometimes on BBC 1 Extra) and  MistaJam on BBC 1 Extra. Of course, as usual, I have to give a special shout out to the disc jocks and the producers here in Jamaica. They are the ones who have taken me from nowhere to somewhere and I am forever indebted to them. The wheels are turning in the right direction and it will be more hard work and some chart-topping songs from Chilando,” said the artiste who is signed to Show Di Vybz/DJ Frass.

Chilando preaches on the Ghetto Bible riddim; heads to Out Rage

Montego Bay, JAMAICA: - Up-and-coming dancehall artiste Chilando (Chy-lando), who is determined to make 2015 his breakout year, preaches quite a spirited, message-filled  sermon on ZJ Dymond’s blazing Ghetto Bible riddim, even as he gets ready this weekend to do his first show of the year, Out Rage 3.0.

On this single, which is entitled Wah Run Road Now,  Chilando sticks to one of his favourite themes – taking charge and stamping his impeccable class  on the dancehall. Declaring that his “style get hotter than a bread inna the bakery”, Chilando makes no apologies as he signals his intent to “run road”.  The message is clear and what is also evident is that Chilando knows the road code and there is no stopping him as he is takes his fans with him on this exciting journey.

“The name of this riddim is inspiring, it makes you ponder, so it’s only natural to do a song that represents what the riddim is all about.  In writing this song, we deliberately used similes and lots of imagery because the Bible is a classic book which has endured for generations and the Ghetto Bible also has to stand the test of time,” Chilando declared.

On the Ghetto Bible riddim, Chilando rubs shoulders with dancehall’s current stars as he joins the likes of  I-Octane, Kalado, DeMarco, Mavado, Kartel and Alkaline in ensuring that the riddim is indeed memorable.

Meanwhile, the Show Di Vybz/DJ FRass recording recording artiste, who hails from the second city, Montego Bay, is enthusiastically anticipating performing on Out Rage 3.0, the ultimate paint and ‘wata’ party to be held at the famous Aquasol Theme Park in Montego Bay on Sunday, February 8.

“This event kick starts my year in terms of live performances and I am R-E-A-D-Y. I can’t wait to interact with my fans and make new ones. It is always a pleasure to perform in Mo Bay because the world comes to Montego Bay,” a confident Chilando said.

Also featured on the Road Team Entertainment event along with Chilando are Kalado, Gage, Blade Skeemaz, Glorious and others.

recording artiste, Chilando (pronounced Chylando) is already in celebration mode. His Chimney Records single, Life Too Short, has gained so much traction in the streets that a music video became compulsory.

Bouncing on a riddim that aptly describes the mood of the single – the Happy Hour riddim – Life Too Short is a rocking party anthem highlighting all the good things in life and encouraging the listener to live your best life now. The video, which oozes with party vibes, shows Chilando and friends getting their groove on, living out the words of the song and making everyone else wish that they were there. Directed by ​Cash Flow Xtreme Arts, the shoot location is a lavish house in Cherry Gardens, which provides the perfect backdrop for the story-board.

Not surprisingly, a very relaxed Chilando says he enjoyed the video shoot immensely and notes that it was very easy working with the fun-loving team which had been assembled to do the job. “Honestly, it didn’t feel like a video shoot at all …like we were doing something just for the cameras,” he said.

“It felt like my friends and I were really just hanging out and having a great time,” explained the singjay, whose other single, Stay Inna Yuh Lane on the Wul Dem Again riddim is also receiving a lot of attention.

He admitted, however, that he was glad to get that particular music video out of the way as there was a strong demand for it and he was looking forward to seeing and hearing the reaction from his steadily increasing fan base. Additionally, he feels that he can now re-set his total focus on voicing some new singles - perhaps including a collaboration or two –  marketing his brand and working on his stagecraft.

“My management team is in high gear and so am I,” the talented singjay who calls Montego Bay home said.

With his sights set on making 2015 the most memorable year in his career to date, Chilando is in full work mode and assures that he has the discipline and the perseverance  to see this through to a highly successful climax.

Great things ahead for Chilando

Montego Jamaica:- Show Di Vybz/DJ Frass recording artiste, Chilando, has been focused

on setting the foundation that will ensure him a solid career in the world of entertainment. The year 2014 hasn’t been one in which the singjay and his team made a lot of noise, but there have been encouragingly bright sparks which will certainly burn even brighter come next year.

It was in July that Chilando’s single “Yes Man” on the heavy-hitting Gwaan Bad riddim did just that on iTunes, creating quite a bit of buzz for the artiste. The song, which is distributed by Zojak Worldwide, muscled its way onto the iTunes Hot Tracks list, quite an achievement for one who is relatively unknown in the grand scheme of things. Although Chilando admits that he was in fact a little overwhelmed by this, he refused to sit on his laurels, or consider himself a “big artiste”.

“Of course, I give thanks for the song getting recognition at that level and I hasten to add that the entire production team must take credit for “Yes Man” doing so well. However, it just means that we have a lot more work to do. When you are building a house, it’s important to lay a solid foundation and so too when you are building a career. I have a great management team in place… well structured… and moving ahead strategically. We are looking to make an indelible impression in 2015,” Chilando stated.

The singjay has been recording with various producers, including Armshouse Records, ZJ Diamond, ZJ Chrome, Purple Skinkz, DJ Sunshine and DJ Frass. Already commanding attention are the singles “Life Too Short” (Happy Hour riddim), “Try Diss” (Elastic Riddim) and “Stay Inna Yuh Lane” (Wul Dem Again riddim). The video for the “Life Too Short” has already been shot and is set for an official release in January 2015.

Although he has not been doing a lot of live performances, Chilando was requested to perform at the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in his hometown, Montego Bay, on December 8. He was very well received and used the opportunity to his best advantage, even having his fans singing along with him on some of his songs. 

"The event was an eye-opener because I didn't realise that so many persons know the songs. The vibe was great and it has made me even more determined to start the new year with a bang," said the singjay who already has his sights set on being the fastest rising artiste for the year 2015.

Armed with two scorching hot singles, “Life Too Short” (Chimney Records) on the popular Happy Hour riddim and “Stay Inna Yuh Lane”, which rocks neatly on the big, bad, Wul Dem Again riddim, the entertainer is reaching the ears of the critical mass and they are loving him. Additionally, Chilando (pronounced Chy-lando) is surrounded by an efficient management team which is focused on instilling the core values of hard work, while playing down the hype associated with career success.

A Montegonian who has already found quite a bit of favour within his parish, Chilando Spencer has been honing his craft for over a decade, and during the last four years has enjoyed a modest degree of national recognition. Between the summers of 2010 to 2011, Chilando worked with various young producers and production houses across Jamaica, including Mad Scientist (Burn Out Records), Da Wiz Records, Phantom from Inspired Music Concepts, El Toro Productions from Russia, Hard Streets Records and Digital Sham from Digitalize Records. This effort paid off and by the following year, he had new releases on the road.

Singles such as “Nuh Tek Box Up”, “Girls Dem Rush Wi”, “Swagg Tun Up”, “Roll like a Thunder”, a collab with popular Jamaican soca artiste Mad Dog, “Girl Am Missing You” featuring Eyonja, “Everyday I Pray” with Gaza Maxwell and Jahvaska, “Money Cyah Done”, “Gwan Gyal” “Gone So Easy” and “Watch Dem” have helped to shine the spotlight on Chilando, not only in Jamaica, but also in the Caribbean and North America.

Born on July 18, 1989 and raised in Montego Bay, St James, Chilando did his first recording at the age of 13. After graduating from William Knibb Memorial High in 2007, Chilando took his music career to a new level and quickly found his way into the hearts of the people.
