Kalado wants to thank fans ‘Personally’

Kingston, JAMAICA: - Having secured all of three nominations in the prestigious Youth

View Awards (YVA’s), 2014 dancehall sensation, Kalado, says he wants to thank all his fans ‘Personally’.

It comes as no surprise to those with their fingers on the pulse of the music that the deejay – whose song ‘Personally’ made serious inroads last year in the psyche of the massives – has been shortlisted in three categories for the chart-topping single. Kalado’s name pops up beside Personally in the following slots for the awards show which caters to the "young, hot and hype": Favourite Local Video, Hottest Summer Song and Favourite Local Chart Topping Song.

Produced by DrDre for his DreDay Productions, the song was “marked for success”, Kalado insists, adding however, that even he was a bit bowled over by three nominations. “Honestly, I sort of expected some form of recognition….maybe one nomination. When I was told that we got three, I couldn’t speak. It is a humbling and an inspiring experience all at once. Big respect to P Square, all Kalado fans everywhere in the world and of course, the production team,” he said.

According to Kalado, “From I listened to the riddim, I knew which song would be a perfect fit with the right dancehall mix, so we went full speed ahead,” the deejay recalled of the song which went on to become one of the biggest summer anthems for 2014. Personally is listed in the Hottest Summer Song category alongside Miami Vice (Kartel); Holiday Again (Alkaline); Everything Nice (JCapri); Syvah (Ding Dong); So Mi Like It (Spice) and Reserve It (Popcaan).  

A great summer song needs an equally great dancing video, one which captures the imagination. Kalado and his team worked this angle with gusto and produced a slick music video which helped to propel the single’s success. Personally is vying for the best video alongside So Mi Like It (Spice); Everything Nice (Popcaan); Syvah (Ding Dong) and Who Knows (Protoje featuring Chronixx).

In the category, Favourite Local Chart Topping Song, Kalado is up against Vybz Kartel with two nominations, Kranium and Popcaan.

“All I’m asking my peeps to do is vote,” the thrice-nominated Kalado declared.

The Youth View Awards, which has a total of 24 categories covering all areas of entertainment, will be held on February 21, 2015.

Kalado signs off on a great year with Hard Knock Life

Kingston, JAMAICA:- The deejay who has made the biggest strides for 2014, Kalado, is determined to end the year on a musical high, and predictions are that his latest single, the vibrant “Hard Knock Life”, is the ideal way to do so.

Once again, the “Sex Compliment” singer has teamed up with Dre Day Productions for a song that is overflowing with reality and snugly set on a riddim that complements the lyrics and sustains the flow. The backdrop for “Hard Knock Life” is prison and the single details the harsh reality of existence in a place that “no mek fi dog”, as Kalado says, quoting from a Jamaican proverb.

But while the song lyrics are introspective, the riddim is so infectious that it is impossible to listen to it without moving to the beat and recognizing that molecule of hope amid the hopelessness. Kalado says that this song forms part of a special Christmas present to his fans, whose support has been instrumental in him having such an awesome year.

The year 2014 has seen many firsts for the young deejay, who did his first Reggae Sumfest; his first overseas reggae festival – Montreal International Reggae Festival; enjoyed a number one summer single with “Personally”; had his first visit to the Motherland and headlined his first official show in Toronto. A busy December for Kalado – plans to let the music do the talking at Sting

2014, dancehall deejay, Kalado will be very busy during the final few weeks of this year, bringing the curtains down in  inimitable style.

With only two weekends left in the year, the “Good Good Bring Life” deejay has four opportunities to connect with fans in Jamaica and roll out his scorching hot selection of hits which have commanded the undivided attention of the dancehall. 

First up on his social calendar is the Smirnoff-sponsored, Red Line on December 21 at the Margaritaville Beach, Ocho Rios. Promoted as Red Line vs Shades On – The Beach Dance Clash, this outdoor event is overflowing with the right ambiance for Kalado to perform at his optimum and perhaps give a slight taste of his edgier side. Red Line also features reggae/dancehall artiste Teflon, along with Spice, G Star and Neffatari from New York.

Kalado’s next stop is GT Taylor's Christmas Extravaganza on December 25 at Independence Park in St Elizabeth. The ultimate Christmas night gala, this concert will see Kalado presenting each song as a special gift to his fans. "Christmas is time for family and at this time of the year, especially, our fans become our extended family. I can't think of anywhere better to be during this holiday than on a stage celebrating with those persons who have helped to make me have such a successful year," Kalado disclosed.

The following night, Kalado will represent at the greatest one night reggae and dancehall show in the world, Sting. This decades-old Boxing Day mega-concert, will see Kalado take his rightful place among the stars and superstars on a highly charged, one-of-a-kind stage at Jamworld, St Catherine. Touted as the event which can make or break an artiste, Kalado is keenly aware of exactly what he needs to do to make a triumphant entry and exit on the fearsome Sting stage on December 26. He had brief moment of fame at last year's Sting when he performed in the New Artiste segment, however, this year Kalado is eager to show Sting fans just how much he matured and has officially earned his stripes.

On December 28, the “Love The Life You Live” deejay will make his way to the other end of the island to thrill fans in Westmoreland at Ravers Bikers Paradise in the capital, Savanna-la-mar.

“I am ready,” Kalado stated confidently. “St Ann, St Catherine and Westmoreland, look out for electrifying performances from Kalado on all three stages. I have a game plan for each show, and all will feature the best of Kalado, but you know that every show is different,” he said.

“With Sting, you have to up the ante on the dressing and focus on making the most of the time that is allotted to you because there are so many artistes on the line-up and everybody claims to be the ‘baddest’. But the fans will find out who is really bad and who is trying hard to be bad. Personally, I am ready for any challenge and I intend to make my music do all the talking,” the “Pay Dem No Mind” artiste declared.

Slick Facebook scam proving a nightmare for Kalado

Kingston, Jamaica: - Rising Dancehall artiste, Kalado is one of the latest victims of a slick scam which has resulted in false advertising, loss of revenue for the deejay, and has proven to be a promotional nightmare. These deeds, his management says, are facilitated by the setting up of fake Facebook pages in Kalado’s name by persons who are not authorized to do so and who have ulterior motives. 

According to his management company, Montrevail Agencies, persons have been impersonating Kalado on social media, while others have been posing as his booking agent and confirming dates and collecting money from unsuspecting promoters.

“The creators of these fake Facebook pages are very slick and quite often the pages appear to be authentic, which makes it even worse for us. They have been misleading persons who are interested in working with Kalado and also his fans. One young lady was able to scam a promoter out of $80,000 and could have caused untold damage to the artiste’s reputation because he was being advertised for a show that we knew nothing about,” Kalado’s manager, Nancy Davis, explained.

According to Ms. Davis, requests have been sent to Facebook to have the pages shut down, “but as soon as one goes down another comes up”. She emphasized that Montrevail Agencies is the only authorized booking agency for Kalado.

Meanwhile, Kalado is busy on the promotional trail with his DreDay-produced single, “Love the Life You Live” which shows the versatility of the artiste and is sure to help him end the year 2014 on a high note. The thought-provoking single and the just-released music video have made a solid impression on not just the dancehall, but the entire music-loving public and for this, Kalado and his team, say: Mission Accomplished.

Parts of the video were filmed in Zimbabwe, Africa, against a backdrop that is simply breathtaking. Adjectives such as “awesome” and “fantastic” have been used to describe the video, which had its official Jamaica premiere last weekend. Other shoot locations include Canada and Jamaica, making this music video a truly multi-national project.

“The message is that we all should make every effort to love the life we live, wherever in the world we happen to be. Thanks to everyone who made this possible and there’s a lot more where this is coming from,” a grateful Kalado said.

Kalado ready to roll into Antigua and Boston

Kingston, JAMAICA: - Dancehall artiste Kalado is definitely on the move this year, and as the last quarter of 2014 sets in, the “Love The Life You Live” singjay is upping the ante in his quest to end the year on a dramatic musical high. 

Keeping his eyes firmly focused on the prize, the entertainer who has already secured a number one hit with “Personally”, has no intention of resting on his laurels. For him, it’s all about preparing for the next show, putting out another song or just generally working on his craft.  The hard-working entertainer recently released what is poised to be another monster hit, the Dre Day-produced “Sex Compliment”, and this is just one of the many songs that he will use to entertain fans in Antigua on Saturday night.

Scheduled to be held at the popular Millers By The Sea venue on the island, Kalado will be joined by dancehall diva Tifa, in a concert that is being promoted as “Action Pack”. Although no stranger to the Caribbean, this will be Kalado’s official breakout Antigua show and he is rubbing his palms together in anticipation.

“Antiguans are so special and I just love their accent,” Kalado revealed.

He continued, “I can’t wait to perform for my fans there. My management team has been in constant communication with the promoters … they are rolling out the red carpet and we are  ready to take the walk and give it our best, like we always do,” the “Take A Ride” artiste declared, adding that he has something special just for his Antiguan fans.

Then, without skipping much of a beat, the singjay who has arguably made the most strides for 2014 will head to Boston, Massachusetts, for his debut solo US performance the following weekend. The venue of choice in Boston is Kay’s Oasis and the event takes its name from one of the artiste’s massive hits, “Good Good Bring Life”.

Another bad review for a Jamaican artiste, as Zimbabwe media hypes up their own talents

Kingston, JAMAICA: - Rising dancehall artiste, Kalado, has become the latest victim of a

negative review following a concert last weekend in the Zimbabwean capital of Harare. Reports in the media are that Kalado was bottled because his performance was not as great as that of homegrown Zimbabwean reggae/dancehall acts.

One journalist writing for the Zimbabwe Mail even asked the question: “Are these so called international artistes worth bringing in the country, in the face of such flops?”

The report continued: “In previous years, local artistes have outperformed their Jamaican counter-parts at several gigs. At one time, another Jamaican artiste Popcaan was literally reduced to a curtain-raiser by Winky D. Locals feel they are short-changed. The media have been awash with complaints of these probably overrated stars letting down their legions of fans in the country.

“Last year, there was a big outcry after Nigerian singer D’banj failed dismally on the stage. Born, Dapo Daniel Oyebanjo ‘D’banj’, proved more of a studio than stage musician as he failed to perform to expectations for hundreds of Zimbabweans who thronged the Glamis Arena for the Lion Lager Summer Beer Festival. Some equated the Fall in Love hitmaker’s performance to local dancer Beverly Sibanda’s style as he spent much of his time speaking about how Zimbabwean ladies were good at waist-twisting. D’Banj went on to invite 10 ladies, one at a time, including Amara Brown to join him on stage…”

From as far back as 2012, singjay, Mr Vegas, who had a less-than-welcoming experience on stage in Zimbabwe, has been questioning this trend: "Of late Jamaican reggae & dancehall artists are getting some bad feed back after performances in Africa, even stones were allegedly thrown at Luciano. Then there were the media reports "Mavado flopped, Vegas failed to deliver, Assasin misses target". In these same article, the media reports sing high praises for the local acts, while ripping the main act. Leaves me to wonder if this is the love we get from Africa, after taking the 2 days or more flt to spread the music to our brothers & sisters... Is this the same Africa that we want to go back home to? Is this the same africa that we dedicated most of our music to?. Africa where is the love?!”(Mr. Vegas Facebook post, August 1 2, 2012)

Vegas advised his followers in the same post: “THE FANS THAT COME TO THE SHOW ARE NOT THE PROBLEM, ITS THE MEDIA WHO TRY TO DISREGARD OUR EFFORT, THEN TRY TO SELL A STORY THAT THE LOCAL ARTISTS PERFORMED BETTER.”

Notably, in the review about Kalado’s Zimbabwe performance, the reviewer also quotes a prominent disc jock who maintains that nothing was wrong with Kalado’s performance. The article states: “Prominent wheel spinner Godfather Templeman defended Kalado’s performance and said local fans should be patient with foreign artistes.

‘Zimbabwean fans are not patient. Kalado is just an upcoming artiste in Jamaica and he came here to perform for Zimbabweans, not Jamaicans, unlike in the case with local artistes who went to perform outside the country for Zimbabweans who migrated to those countries,’ said Templeman. ‘There was nothing wrong with his performance...’”

With that experience behind him, Kalado is settling back into the musical flow, as he continues to assure fans that “good good” does, in fact, “bring life” and that he takes none of this "personally".

Kalado ready to rock Zimbabwe September 13

Kingston, Jamaica: - Like it or love it, Kalado has so far proven that he is indeed the fastest rising act for 2014. Sealing a slew of hit singles – including the # 1 one song, “Personally” – with a string of memorable performances both locally and overseas, it is obvious that this is a deejay who is definitely on the rise.

Having performed in the Caribbean and the continents of North and South America, the “Good Good” singer is rising to the challenge of taking on another continent – Africa, the Motherland.  Kalado will make his Africa debut on September 13, when he headlines a concert in the Zimbabwean capital, Harare, in what is anticipated to be a mega affair.

“We all know that Jamaicans have a special relationship with Zimbabwe, musically. The event, which will also feature a number of African artistes, took its name from one of Kalado’s most popular songs in Zimbabwe, “Make Me Feel” . Fans will be treated to Jamaica’s newest dancehall sensation giving them not only dancehall music but a touch of Afro beat with his latest hit “Personally”

As Kalado noted, “I will be giving my fans one full hour of high energy; good songs, great performance, dancing and lots of surprises. It is going to me my first time in Africa and I want to leave a lasting impression.”

Meanwhile, as he continues to solidify his space in the competitive dancehall arena, Kalado recently showcased his talents in Costa Rica, at not one, but two shows. He performed to capacity audiences in Limon at Club SK and in Puntarenas Club Mystikal, cutting across language barriers and ensuring that the Spanish-speaking Costa Ricans got their money’s worth and then some.

Among the popular songs for Kalado were “Make Me Feel”, ‘Body Nuh Dead”, "Turn it da way ya"​, ​ "Pree Money​"​ ​,"​Gyal"​, ​“Good Good Bring Life” and “Personally”.

“I was quite surprised to see everybody singing my songs, when most of the patrons only spoke Spanish. They made me feel right at home.  I cannot wait to go back to Costa Rica. Yo regresare!” he said in his best Spanish accent.

Kalado dazzles at his debut overseas reggae festival

Kingston, Jamaica:- For the second time since the start of this year, dancehall artiste, Kalado, treated his Cana

dian fans to a dazzling, unforgettable performance and still managed to leave them wanting more.

From Toronto, Ontario to Montreal, Quebec, the artiste, who is undoubtedly the fastest rising dancehall act for 2014, has demonstrated his ever-increasing star power. Not even the rain in Montreal could dampen the mood, as the “Personally” singer upped the ante and delivered a great performance at the annual Montreal International Reggae Festival. For an artiste making his debut at an overseas festival of this calibre, the critics agree that Kalado was impressive.

Actually, Kalado was a last-minute addition to the event, having had his August tour of Europe cancelled, thus freeing him up for other lucrative engagements.  His fans inside the venue must have given thanks for the cancellation of the Europe tour, as they stood in the pelting rain and gleefully sang word-for-word songs such as “Good Good”, “Personally”, “Body Nuh Dead”, “Make Me Feel”, “Sad Streets”, “Pree Money”, “Pay Dem No Mind” and “Take A Ride”.

As Kalado explained, “The festival organisers had approached my manager a few months ago to book me, but we were already holding the dates for Europe, but as soon as they found out that our tour was cancelled they reached out and booked me and my team made it happen.

He continued, “I was very surprised to see how many thousands of people were standing in the rain singing and cheering me on after every song. It was a great opportunity and I really had a great time.”

Kalado’s management disclosed that overseas requests for the artiste are coming in fast, a testament to the his mounting popularity, which was given an even greater boost after his Dancehall Night performance at Jamaica’s premier reggae festival, Reggae Sumfest.  Kalado is now confirmed for a few shows in Costa Rica from August 29-31, then Zimbabwe on September 13, followed by Antigua on October 11. Other US and Caribbean dates in between are pending.

In closing, the “Pree Money” artiste said, “Look out for a lot more from Kalado before the end of the 2014… we have a lot of surprises in store.”

Kalado and Spice’s summer tour of Europe cancelled

Kingston, Jamaica:- Dynamic dancehall artistes, Kalado and Spice are as disappointed

as their fans that, owing to a lack of professionalism on the part of the organisers, their highly anticipated, joint summer tour of Europe has been cancelled.  The two entertainers should have left Jamaica this week to kick off what was scheduled to be a month-long European tour starting on August 7^th and ending on August 30^th.  Both artistes were looking forward to touring together for the first time, in addition to which, this would have been Kalado’s first European tour.

The respective management teams for the artistes have disclosed that a lack of dutiful preparation from Kayamoves, the highly recommended, Europe-based agency which was handling all the details of the proposed tour, led to an unfortunate breakdown in communications. After experiencing many challenges during the four-month preparation time for the tour and receiving vital information from Kayamoves in an ad hoc manner, things finally fell apart.

“We were informed less than two weeks prior to the beginning of the tour that the itinerary was not complete, after several attempts weeks prior to that requesting the touring schedule and information. The proposed tour was in the works for almost four months and up to this day we have not received a final itinerary to approve from the Agency,” the management teams said in a joint statement.

Kalado and his management team have stated that they have no option but to distance themselves from Kayamoves and is informing the public that they have no agreement with Kayamoves and the agency is not authorized to book any shows for Kalado. Kalado and Spice have expressed their apologies to their fans and note that they regret being denied the opportunity to showcase their summer catalogue and perform their several hit songs live and direct in front of a welcoming European crowd.

However, they will be working on some future dates together as they bring their talent and their catalogue to centrestage. Both artistes are hot on the scene, with Kalado presently #1 on the Richie B Jamaica Countdown Charts with Personally and Spice continues her dominance with hot remixes and new songs Like a Man which she performed to an enthusiastic crowd at Reggae Sumfest.

Catherine Hall in Montego Bay, rising deejay Kalado is enjoying a feeling of accomplishment for a job that many critics agree was very well done.

It was a night on which Dancehall royalty brought their ‘A’ game to the stage, and with the stakes very high, Kalado measured up admirably, signalling to the world that his time is now. Receiving top marks in areas such as dress, deportment, style and stage presence, the “Personally” singer was brimming with confidence as he took command of the Sumfest stage and delivered his well-rehearsed set, solidly connecting with fans, including quite a few new converts.

His set included songs like “Good Good”, “Personally”, “Body Nuh Dead”, “Make Me Feel”, “Sad Streets”, “Pree Money”, “Pay Dem No Mind” and “Take A Ride”, all of which have made significant inroads in the dancehall and have contributed to the spiralling success of this young artiste.

“Sumfest was awesome,” a very satisfied Kalado recalled. “I spent several hours visualizing my performance, what I would wear, how I would greet fans and what one could consider the basic things, because I understand just how important it is to get it right. Kalado blazes the summer with ‘Personally’

Kingston Jamaica - Take it raw or have it ‘cooked’, but whichever flavour you favour, the

reality is that rising singjay, Kalado, is heating up the entire 90 days of summer with the exciting hit single entitled “Personally”.

This song has been steadily creeping its way into the psyche of dancehall fans, many of whom know the lyrics word-for-word and are able to inject the right degree of passion and pleasure into each syllable, just like Kalado. Huge amounts of genuine love from radio have seen “Personally” enjoying high rotation by being included on the playlist of most of the popular disc jocks and club selectors. The video has also been racking up numerous hits and positive commentary on Youtube, and with so much attention from all angles, chart success was almost inevitable.

Holding firm in the number two spot on the popular ER Chart for three consecutive weeks, “Personally” is tipped to take pole position any week now and give Kalado that longed-for Number one song.

Kalado makes ‘Good Good’ Toronto debut this weekend

Kingston Jamaica - Coming hard on the heels of a fabulous video launch and an exciting performance at the LIME Celebrity showcase at Famous night club last Friday, fast-rising artiste, Kalado is off to Canada this weekend for his debut performance.

Kalado, who has secured quite a following in that section of North America, will have the distinction of being the headline act at his very first show in Toronto. Scheduled for the Blue Diamond Club on Saturday, May 24, the event is entitled ‘Good Good Bring Life’, which is the title of one of the artiste’s hugely popular songs.

Radio disc jocks and sound system selectors in Canada have been filling the airwaves with the sounds of Kalado and fans have been showing their total appreciation for singles including Make Me Feel, Personally, Pree Money and Pay Dem No Mind. His latest single, Take A Ride, for which the video was officially released at Famous, is also poised to make a double impact on the Canadian massive who have firmly embraced this dancehall act.

The build-up to the event has exceeded expectations and Kalado is eagerly anticipating the moment he steps on the Toronto stage to thrill his people.

“I went to Canada last year November, but that visit involved a video project with a Canadian artiste. This time will be different. I am going to perform for my fans and tell them thanks for their support and for giving me this opportunity to be with them live and direct,” a very gungho Kalado explained.

“As artistes, it is important that we create songs that can carry us way beyond the shores of Jamaica and connect with people of different cultures and languages,” he said further.

The year 2014 has already seen impressive growth in Kalado’s career, a development which he says is the result of all the hard work he has been putting in throughout the years.

Also on his overseas calendar for this year is a European tour which will take place between August and September.

Kalado to premiere video at LIME Celebrity showcase at Famous

  

Kingston, Jamaica - With the summer steadily approaching and the entertainment scene heating up, dancehall artiste, Kalado, is getting ready to give his fans a season to remember and even more reasons to dance.

Having done a medley music video for two of his big songs, “Pree Money” and “Pay Dem Nuh Mind” –  which has received thousands of hits on Youtube –  the affable artiste has completed another  video, this time for the hit bound single, “Take A Ride”. This will be premiered on Friday at the Famous nightclub in Portmore, where Kalado will also perform.

The event is the LIME Celebrity Showcase at which the artiste is looking forward to thrill his fans with his growing number of hit singles.

“I know that fans will love the Take A Ride video and as to the performance…well…they say that seeing is believing, so I’m inviting everyone to come out and enjoy the experience firsthand,” a very upbeat Kalado encourages.

The deejay, who has been making his presence felt musically since 2008, savoured the real taste of success in 2013 with the breakout singles Make Me Feel and Good Good Bring Life, which made their debut on charts in the Caribbean and the United Kingdom. Not surprisingly, he is poised to enjoy even greater success this year and his management team expects great things from the deejay.

 Another song, the ZJ Chrome-produced Jealously is in the Air, has been receiving much attention and this is expected to push Kalado straight onto the mainstream stage.

The deejay, who is described by his manager, Nancy Davis, as driven, determined and superbly talented, admits that he “lives and breathes music.” He can always be found in the studio, honing his craft and perfecting his flow.

Kalado, whose real name is Eton Gordon had his initial break in 2008 when he entered the Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall show which helped to raise his profile in the local music media as one to watch for the future.

2009 was the year Kalado's recording experience found success with the release of his breakthrough single "Sad Streets" that yielded a #1 video on HYPE TV. Kalado caught the attention of Dancehall heavyweight Bounty Killer, who in 2011 was so impressed by the young deejay that he invited him to become a member of his latest clique of rising dancehall artists, Alliance Next Generation (ANG).

Kalado is proving to the world that he is totally ready to establish himself in the dancehall as one of the most gifted artists of the new decade.
As he says, “Look out for me. I'm coming to stand on the world, and if I get tired… I'll sit in the throne instead!"
