VEGAS PROMISES TO BRING 'SUMFEST' TO MOBAY ON AUGUST 6TH
Mr. Vegas will be bringing his own unique bit of excitement to Montego Bay this week as he promises a “great Sumfest performance” for his legion of fans at the UDC car park in the capital city.
“When I was on tour in Europe, mi have sleepless nights thinking about how I missed Reggae Sumfest and you know that Montego Bay is my town so mi plan to go all out on August 6th and give Mobay people my Sumfest performance,” he said.
Mr. Vegas returned to Jamaica this week after completing a wildly successful ‘I Am Blessed tour’ in Europe. He had kicked off the tour on July 13th with a rousing performance on a show dubbed Summer Reggae Fest at Fort de Saint Pere in France. The tour lasted for about three weeks with several gigs in Germany, Italy, France, Belgium, Holland and Spain. Notable performances included closing the Dour Festival show in Belgium with a high-energy, rain-soaked performance that captivated the large 30,000 plus crowd which flocked to the site for the final day of the annual four-day music festival.
“The most challenging part of the tour was flying almost every day with two or three connections, and in a different type of climate in every country. It’s also hard to find food especially for myself because of
my reflux so at times it’s just one meal per day,” he said.
Despite the numerous challenges, Vegas had a great time interacting with his fans and entertaining them onstage.
“The shows were great we did not take a engineer with us so we had a sound problem on some shows but we made the best use of what we had and gave the people what they came to see - great, high energy performances. I can't tell definitively which show was better than the other but for me though, I would love to sit and watch the recording of when I closed the show at the Dour festival in Belgium, that was special,” he said.
He was also pleased to see that he was winning over a new generation of reggae-dancehall fans based on the popularity of ‘I Am Blessed’, a song that topped several local and international reggae charts. The
song is also enjoying excellent rotation on HOT 97 in New York and may soon be officially added to the playlists of several big urban radio stations.
“It was surprising how many young teenagers are following Mr. Vegas, the shows were well attended and I Am Blessed was like an anthem everywhere we played,” he said.
After performing in Montego Bay on August 6th, the artiste will be heading back to North America for three shows on consecutive nights. On August 12th , he will be performing at The Roxy in Boston, the
following day he will be at the Puffer Bellie in Hyannis, Boston, and on August 14th, he will perform at Blakelys in Virginia Beach, Virginia. After that, he gets a much deserved break before his next
gig at the National Stadium in Guyana on August 28th.
“Mr. Vegas just keeps working, I am truly blessed,” he said.
