MR. VEGAS STEALS 'ON DA REGGAE TIP' WITH HIGH ENERGY SET
Singjay Mr. Vegas stamped his class with a high-energy 25 minute set chock full of hits during the star-studded HOT 97's On Da Reggae Tip concert last night September 4th 2009.
Hitting the stage at about 8:05 p.m., he belted out Go Up on the Juice riddim, seguing neatly into hits like Heads High - which earned him his biggest forward for the night- and Pull Up which had the Hispanic girls in the audience in a literal tizzy.
Accompanied by DJ Fatta Diamond, Vegas continued with high energy songs such as Hot Wuk, and Tek Weh Yuself. He showed versatility by doing two Bob Marley songs, Buffalo Soldier and Three Little Birds, and even did a soca song, Tek a Jump, before dropping his mega hit, I Am Blessed.
A rejuvenated Beenie Man was in sparkling form, delivering his well-known hits that have done well on the Billboard charts like Sim Simmer. He won round one of the faceoff with Bounty Killer this Labour Day weekend, and the two will meet up again at 'Best of Both Worlds' at the Roseland Ballroom in New York.
Earlier, the show had started off with T.O.K before Spice sparked things up with Ramping Shop before making way for Mr. Vegas. Serani struggled a bit after delivering his signature hit, No Games, but then his energy level plateaued as he struggled to connect with the audience. Serani got an assist at the end from Jim Jones who came on and rocked the stage. Bounty Killer started out well but perhaps chose the wrong forum to attempt to disrespect Vybz Kartel as the audience of mostly females just stared at him like he was some sort of interesting new species of insect and watched him until his set was over.
Elephant Man was at his brilliant best, doing his high energy dances and delighting the audience with his antics. Mavado was easily the best Alliance performer on the night, thrilling the crowd with hit after hit.
